You Can Download the Canary 1 Build of Android Studio Now, Supports Kotlin

Yesterday at Google I/O, it was revealed that
Google would be bringing first-class support for Kotlin to Android. For those unaware, Kotlin has been regarded as a programming language that’s easier to use than others because of how the syntax is setup. Not only that, but it can also be gradually introduced into existing products too so the transition to Kotlin can be rather seamless. We were told that support for the language would be coming in Android Studio 3.0, and now an early build of that is available.

Support for Kotlin isn’t the only thing included in this update though. Google tells us there are three major features that have been added to Android Studio 3.0. The first of these new features is a new suite of application performance profiling tools so developers can quickly diagnose any performance issues their applications have. Then there is the support for the Kotlin programming language that was first announced yesterday on stage at Google I/O.

And the last big feature in Android Studio 3.0 is the increased Gradle build speeds for some of the larger application projects you may be working on. While these are the three standout features, the new Canary build of Android Studio does in fact come with some more changes that developers can take advantage of. This includes evolved support for Java 8 language features and APIs, additional enhancements to the Layout Editor, and a new Adaptive Launcher Icon wizard.

The update now allows you to add custom fonts to your application with the XML fonts preview and font selection tools, there are a new set of templates in the New Project wizard and the New Module wizard for Android Things, and it includes the IntelliJ 2017.1 release. There are a lot of other changes included in this canary build and Google wants you to try it out by downloading it at this link.
